Andrew Ruch

June 10, 1964 — November 19, 2018

Andrew J. Ruch, 54, became an angel, and joins his mother, father and brother who are now watching over his remaining three brothers and three sisters.

Andy was a happy guy and brought happiness to everyone he met through his group hugs - he "mastered" the technique - with anyone who participated. He always accepted everyone with a smile no matter if the first encounter or numerous times thereafter. He loved parties and holidays especially Christmas and his birthday for the lights and opening presents very slowly, not to tear the paper.

He is a decorated gold and silver medalist of the Special Olympics for basketball and several other sports. Andy was proud to be a member of the West Suburban Special Recreation Bobcats Basketball Teams. He loved looking through books, wrinkling those pages, and staying overnight at his brothers and sisters homes. He loved riding and listening to trains , the "Pizza Party" on Friday, going out to eat with the Friday Knights, which included bar hopping, dancing and drinking seven-up with no ice. He cherished all his brothers and sisters and never wanted any party to end.

He loved all his nieces and nephews especially Dr. Crea explaining every ailment possible, then laugh and of course a hug. He prayed many nights for every family member and mentioned all by name, delaying the bedtime process.

His happiness never wavered even through two boughts with cancer, losing his eyesight and several other illnesses' and injuries. His eternal happiness will be missed by his family, those he met, and will serve as a reminder - life isn't so bad, smile and be happy.

He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy (Hoffman), father George Jr., and brother Paul. He is survived by his brothers Russell (Karen), Timothy (Ruth Liberio) and Phillip (Christina), and sisters Christine, Susan (Henry) Lechowicz and Mary (Bill) Wagner; his nephews Jonathan, Philip and Michael, and his nieces Dr. Crea, Zaya, Shannon, Meredith, Eden, Katherine, Andrea and Nicole; many grand nieces and nephews along with his numerous Hoffman & Karas cousins.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Andy's name to the Park Ridge Care Center, 665 Busse Highway, Park Ridge, Il 60068; www.parkridgecc.com.
