James Markgraf

Rev. James Arnold Markgraf 91. Passed Thursday peacefully at his home. James was born and raised in West Virginia. After serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps he moved to Chicago. James married Naomi Ruth nee Gould on July 4, 1940. They dedicated their lives and marriage to God. Together, they worked for 59 years serving God in many different with churches throughout the Chicagoland area. As an army veteran of World War II, James served in the signal corps while stationed in India. James entered the ministry in 1953. He started the Sunny Place Church of God in Addison, Il. He later worked as a supply pastor with churches in Northern Illinois. James was called to serve as Pastor of the Community Church of God in Burbank, Illinois from 1970 to 1992. The church relocated to Justice, Illinois, where James continued to serve as Pastor Emeritus. James was the beloved husband of the late Naomi Ruth nee Gould. Cherished father of Linda (Richard) Sprague, James, Jr.(Irene), Wayne, Glenn, and Pamela Markgraf. Loving grandfather of Rebecca Glenny, Richard (Haidee) Sprague, Jr., and Ryan Markgraf. Brother of Alma Paul) Taulbee and Raymond Markgraf. Brother in law of Dorothy Gould and Mary (Thomas) Randolph. Uncle of many. He was preceeded in death by his parents John and Septa Markgraf; hi brothers Howard (Joyce), Norman, and Frances; and brother in laws Dewey, Gene, John, and Samuel Gould. Visitation Monday 3:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Family and friends will gather Tuesday, 10:00 A.M. at Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home & Crematorium 9568 Belmont Ave. Franklin Park for a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Interment Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
