Joan Carsten

Joan Virginia Carsten (nee Burrows), age 86, of Winfield, IL peacefully went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at home surrounded by her family.
She was born September 25, 1929 to Virginia S Jaquith and George A Burrows, and raised in Park Ridge, IL. She received her RN through Northwestern University at Evanston Hospital in 1952, and worked at Evanston and Swedish Covenant Hospitals.
She married James F Carsten in 1951 and lived in Chicago, where she sang in the Chancel Choir of Sauganash Community Church for 15 years, and served as a leader and nurse for both the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts.
She moved with her family to Winfield, IL in 1970, worked at Wheaton Medical Clinic for 20 Years, and sang in the choir of Gary United Methodist Church for 40 years.
She enjoyed music, books, travel and spending time at their cottage at Lake Geneva, WI. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and cherished friend.
She is survived by Jim, her husband of 64 years; her children Barb (Jim) McCord of Phoenix, AZ , Deb (Daniel) Kloberdanz of Colorado Springs, Co and Jim (Karyn) Carsten of Wheaton; grandchildren Heather (Billy) Kerr, Michael McCord, Jonathan and Benjamin Carsten, Mackenzie and Karsten Petersen, Jaxson and Amelia Carsten; great grandchildren Madison and William Kerr.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother George A Burrows Jr.
A service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2 P.M. at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N Main St, Wheaton, IL
