Louise Kleinow

May 31, 1915 — March 22, 2010

age 94. Born in River Grove, Il on May 31, 1915, passed away March 22, 2010. Preceded in death by her husband John Kleinow. Survived by her son Jay (Scarlett) Kleinow, granddaughters Kelsey and Kassidy and her beloved caregiver and constant companion, Alice Kamtala. Attended River Grove School, East Leyden High school, and the University of Illinois. Have 30 graduate hours from National College of Education Rosery, and International Graduate School of Education. During Louise's first ten years at River Grove School she taught under Jack A. Kellogg who had been her 8th grade teacher. Louise taught 2nd grade through 8th grade, served on the negotiating team and helped write the first contract. Served on Hospitality Committee for many years. Worked with the reading , Science, Math, Scholarship, Report Card and Insurance Committees. Spent many hours with the Citizen's Committee working for the referendum. Louise had 40 years under contract and finished her last 5 years as a substitute teacher. Retired in 1984 after 45 years of teaching at the River Grove School. She touched many children's lives. Louise was active with the P.T.A serving as Faculty Rep, Historian, and honored with Life Membership in 1967. She had the distinction of winning the 100% membership for 10 consecutive years with the pupils she taught. Mrs. Kleinow also enjoyed playing the trombone in the River Grove School Band and also with the Leyden High School Band. Attended Grace United Church of Christ for many years and was active in the church choir from 1941 to 1976, taught Sunday School and was a member of the J.O.Y.
