Nancy Houdek

November 12, 1952 — June 3, 2015

Nancy Lee Houdek, 62 (nee Ginski) of Franklin Park, passed away at home with her family at her side on June 3, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Beloved wife of Joseph L.,
Loving mother of Jessica D. (Jeffrey T.) Nortman, Julia M. Houdek and step-daughter Elizabeth D. Houdek.
Loving daughter of Leona I. and the late James P. Ginski.
Sister to Cynthia (William) Dover and Diane (Kenneth) Lambert and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was born November 12, 1952; grew up in Franklin Park and attended St. Gertrude Grammar School and Mother Guerin High School. She attended Illinois State University, graduating with a B.S. in Education then attended Triton College, receiving her Registered Nursing Degree.
Nancy worked at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park for 35 years, starting in 1978 in the Emergency Room for about � 3 years, then to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit for about 7 years and finally finishing her career in the Cardiac Cath Lab, retiring due to her illness in May, 2013. Her colleagues stated that Nancy was an excellent Nurse, who always gave of her self and was always ready to assist anyone. She loved her career and really made a difference in the medical profession.
On January 20, 1981, Nancy met Joe at the Sanctuary Bar and Restaurant in Brookfield and on
July 1 , 1981 accepted Joe's proposal of marriage. They were married on September 20, 1981 and the rest is history.
Nancy will be missed by everyone who met her. She was a radiant and loving lady who gave unselfishly of herself. EVERYONE LOVED NANCY.
Nancy was a member of the American Legion Post Franklin Park Auxiliary Unit 974 for many years.
On Sunday, June 7, 2015, there will be a Celebration of Nancy's Life at the American Legion Franklin Park Post 974, located at 9757 Pacific Avenue, Franklin Park, IL 60131, from 3:00PM until 7:00PM. Please wear something BLUE, to honor her. That was Nancy's favorite color.
