Norma M. McGowan, a loving matriarch and devoted follower of her faith, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on February 6, 1933, Norma was a guiding light for her family and a testament to the virtues of love, faith, and resilience.
She was the cherished wife of the late Robert E. McGowan of 68 years, with whom she shared countless beautiful moments, growing together in love and partnership. Norma was the beloved daughter of the late Carl Vergon and Hattie Murphy. As a devoted mother, she embraced her role wholeheartedly, nurturing and encouraging her daughters Cheryl (Timothy) McLean, Robin (Randy) Conrad, and Amy McGowan (Jeff Kruse) with a depth of love only a mother could know.
Norma's legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Lauren McLean (Anthony) Campos, Timothy (Elizabeth) McLean, Beau (Cassie) Conrad, Paige (Jason) Zeman, Kevin (Elizabeth) Conrad, and Matthew Conrad. Each grandchild brought her immense joy, and her heart swelled with pride as she watched them grow. They were not just her grandchildren; they were her greatest blessings.
She was the valued great-grandmother of Miles, Sophie, Lily, Adaline, and Charlotte. Her family was her world, and she dedicated her life to creating a warm and loving home where everyone felt welcomed and cherished.
Norma is remembered fondly as the dear sister of the late Richard Vergon and the late Hilda Smith, along with her surviving siblings, CarlaMary (Gary) Hacker and Chris (Sue) Vergon.
Norma is also the very special patient of her caregiver Mary DeVine, and of the Loyola Hospice team.
A devout Catholic, Norma lived her life guided by her faith in Christ, embodying the qualities of patience, understanding, and love. She was a devoted homemaker, pouring her heart into every meal prepared and every corner of her home, ensuring that love was the main ingredient in all that she did.
Norma M. McGowan will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She was truly the best mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love that will resonate through generations.
