Richard Baran

July 22, 1938 — November 30, 2019

Richard Thomas Baran (Dick), loving companion of Carol Ann Fredrickson, cherished father of Cheryl (Carrol) Symank and Lisa Puck, beloved grandfather of William, Emma, Elsa and Riley died November 30, 2019 at the age of 81 years.

Dick was born July 22, 1938 in Chicago to parents Chester and Arlette Baran. An avid supporter of education, he dedicated his life to learning, teaching, coaching and mentoring. Dick attended Catholic grade school, Missouri Military Academy, served in the Navy and after his service, went on to complete his post high school education achieving college, graduate and doctoral degrees. While continuing his personal education, he furthered the education of so many students at Weber High School, Wheeling High School and various colleges where he also combined his love of teaching and sports by coaching football – a true passion.

A man so rich in blessings as to later in life be able to enjoy the company and develop a deep bond with Carol Ann’s children – Julie (Rich) Laren, Jim (Wendy) Fredrickson, Chuck (Michelle) Fredrickson and Leanne (Rob) Barshop, 14 grandchildren (4 with spouses), and 3 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 3:00 - 9:00 PM at Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home, 9568 Belmont Avenue, Franklin Park.

Family and friends will gather on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM for mass at Saint Gertrude Church, 9613 Schiller Blvd, Franklin Park.

A private family interment is scheduled for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Saint Vincent De Paul Society or your favorite charity in Dick’s name.

Dick Baran was a humble man with a few deep passions. He loved his family, music, writing, the Northwoods, and a good cocktail. Please join us in celebrating Dick’s life.
