Virginia Ann Rood (nee Wells) passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026. A devoted
and caring wife to Bob for 45 years until his passing in March 2024, she is survived by
her son David and his wife Mollie, and grandchildren Ian Gordon (deceased), Erin
Gordon, Caty Gordon, and Zac Clark. Her beloved nephew Alan Wells also mourns her
passing.
Ginie was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 11, 1936 and the family lived in Franklin
Park until moving to Atlanta, Georgia for her father’s health. She and David returned to
Franklin Park in 1965.
A single mother, she raised David on her own and bought their first home in Elk Grove
Village, Illinois in 1972. She and Bob lived in the village until transitioning to assisted
living in Wheaton.
After retiring from her 27-year career with United Airlines, Ginie and Bob enjoyed
traveling to Europe and Canada, numerous SPEBSQA (barbershop quartet singing)
conventions, and visiting her brother Albert Wells in Florida (now deceased). Deeply
religious, she delighted in singing in the choir at St. Julian Eymard Catholic church.
Without doubt, Ginie’s true passion and delight was spending time with her family,
attending every special occasion or performance. Her laughter, wisdom, hugs, and love
will never be forgotten.
If one wishes to make a donation in her name, she would always support Breakthrough
T1D (formerly JDRF).
