April 10, 1955 ~ July 19, 2020 (age 65)

Obituary

Primitiva “Memie” Formentera De Leon was born in Cebu City, Philippines on April 10, 1955. She was the second of ten siblings, the eldest daughter of the late Baldomero Formentera Sr. and Primitiva Bermoy.

Memie graduated high school at the University of Southern Philippines in 1972 and received her degree in Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering at the University of San Jose – Recoletos in 1977. She was an academic achiever and actively participated in school and community programs. Growing up in a musically-inclined family, she was a natural singer and dancer. She was a choir member at St. Jude Thaddeus Chapel of Camp Lapu-Lapu Central Command Military Base in Apas, Cebu City, Philippines. She worked at the Philippine Welding Equipment (PWE) of Cebu Oxygen Acetylene Company (COACO).

In October 1981, she married Eduardo “Eddie” De Leon, a Licensed Mechanical Engineer, then working for the multi-national Union Carbide Cebu. She then migrated to the United States of America with her husband, Eddie. Their 39 years of marriage was blessed with four daughters – Dianne Margaret, Elizabeth, Kristina Rae, Marie Angela, who are all health professionals; and a son, Clint Edward. She lovingly cared for her four grandchildren – Vennice, Vienne, Lianna and Edward.

Memie dedicated her life caring for other people. She worked as a home health nurse and was adored by her clients and their families. She was a proud mother and devoted wife. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She was a remarkable cook, an exceptional baker, a trendy dressmaker and the life of the party. Memie made friends wherever she went and touched so many lives with her generosity and thoughtfulness.

A devout Catholic, Memie attended Sunday mass regularly. She fought life's toughest challenges and showed resilience with courage and deep faith as she underwent mastectomy, dialysis and kidney transplant. Memie left behind nothing but beautiful memories. Her friends will miss her sparkling personality and positive influence. Her family will miss the smart, loving, well-spoken and selfless person who never failed to share her blessings and help those in need.

Memie turned 65 last April 10, 2020 and joined her husband in heaven last July 19, 2020. Eternal rest grant unto her and may her soul rest in peace.
